Cos’è un alimentatore per applicazioni medicali conforme IEC 60601-1?

 

Si tratta di un convertitore che permette di alimentare, tipicamente in DC, un sistema o un componente in ambito elettromedicale, prelevando tensione AC dalla rete. Tipicamente, il case è in materiale plastico e la spina può essere a 2 o 3 poli. Esistono anche versioni open frame da alloggiare all’interno di apparecchiature medicali. La progettazione è eseguita secondo gli standard internazionali e alcuni requisiti sono specifici e particolari in confronto alle più comuni applicazioni per informatica e telecomunicazioni. Che differenze ci sono per quanto attiene la certificazione allo standard IEC 60601-1 Quarta Edizione rispetto alla vecchia IEC 60601-1 Terza Edizione?

Di fatto, le certificazioni in materia di sicurezza fissate dalla Terza Edizione continuano a valere mentre per quanto attiene gli aspetti EMI/EMC si fa riferimento alla Quarta.

Qual è la differenza fra un alimentatore per usi medicali certificato IEC 60950-1 rispetto ad uno certificato IEC 60601-1 ?

 

Sia la IEC 60950-1 che la IEC 60601-1-2 si riferiscono ad alimentatori AC/DC per uso interno o esterno ma con diversi requisiti relativi alle specifiche del sistema da alimentare. Le funzionalità di base sono ovviamente le stesse, ci si riferisce per esempio a tensione di uscita e caratteristiche meccaniche ma, per il resto, ci sono diverse differenze. I dispositivi IEC 60601, in confronto all’altra tipologia, devono essere in grado di sopportare tensioni elevate e avere basse correnti di dispersione. Inoltre, con riferimento al carico, occorre distinguere fra sistemi MOOP e MOPP. Le apparecchiature medicali devono includere uno o più sistemi di protezione ovvero Means of Protection (MOPs) per isolare i pazienti e gli operatori dal rischio di elettrocuzione. Si tratta di isolamento di sicurezza, terra di protezione, distanze di isolamento in aria o altri sistemi contro il contatto diretto. Tutti questi sistemi sono spesso utilizzati in combinazione fra loro. La norma IEC 60601-1 Terza Edizione fissa delle differenze relativamente ai rischi per i pazienti e per gli operatori. Pertanto, un sistema MOP può quindi essere classificato come MOPP (Means of Patient Protection) oppure come MOOP (Means of Operator Protection). La principale differenza sta nelle distanze limite di isolamento. Per esempio, per ottenere la rispondenza ai requisiti 2 x MOPP il livello di isolamento da garantire durante i test che prevedono l’applicazione di 4000 Vac con una distanza di di 8 mm è il doppio rispetto al caso MOPP.

Cos’è un alimentatore per usi medicali IEC 60601-1-2 e qual è la differenza fra la tipologia BF e CF?

Tali sigle si riferiscono alle tipologie B ovvero “body”, BF ovvero “body floating type” e CF ovvero “cardiac floating type. Ci si riferisce in pratica alle modalità di applicazione del dispositivo medicale al corpo del paziente con requisiti tecnici che riguardano tensione di isolamento, correnti disperse, ecc. La parola floating si riferisce all’assenza di collegamento di terra. Si tratta in questo caso di dispositivi in Classe II con isolamento doppio o rinforzato. La tipologia B si riferisce a dispositivi che operano nelle vicinanze del paziente così come definito dalla norma IEC 60601-1 ovvero senza contatto elettrico diretto e con collegamento a terra. Si tratta, per esempio, di sistemi di illuminazione, sistemi di automazione per letti, distributori automatici di medicine, macchinari a raggi x, ecc. Nel caso dei sistemi BF, invece, vi è una stretta prossimità fra paziente e apparecchiatura, si tratta per esempio di endoscopi, sistemi di monitoraggio dei parametri vitali, ecc. Nel caso CF, il collegamento è invece diretto come avviene per defibrillatori, pacemaker, elettrodi ECG intracardiaci, ecc. Per ovvie ragioni, in questo ultimo caso, è richiesto un elevatissimo livello di protezione contro l’elettrocuzione.

Cos’è un alimentatore conforme alla norma IEC 62368-1:2018 ?

Tale norma fissa i requisiti di sicurezza per sistemi elettrici ed elettronici in ambito audio, video, telecomunicazioni e applicazioni per uffici e similari per tensioni non superiori a 600 V. I requisiti fissati riguardano i dispositivi di protezione e la loro effettiva implementazione nel sistema allo scopo di prevenire danni a persone o cose per elettrocuzione o incendio. Un alimentatore conforme alla IEC 62368-1 è pertanto un convertitore AC/DC che ha superato i test previsti da tale norma.

Gli alimentatori IEC 62368-1 possono essere considerati come succedanei di quelli conformi IEC 60950-1?

È già in corso la transizione delle norme IEC 60065 e 60950-1 verso la nuova IEC 62368-1. In Nord America le certificazioni ETL e UL 60950-1 continueranno a rimanere valide, a meno di ulteriori novità.

Vi sono differenze sostanziali fra la IEC 60950-1 e la IEC 62368-1 per gli alimentatori?

Sebbene l’impostazione generale della nuova norma appaia diversa, di fatto la maggior parte dei prodotti che risultavano conformi alla IEC 60950-1 lo sono anche per la IEC 62368-1 apportando minime modifiche o, in taluni casi, senza alcuna modifica necessaria. In ogni caso, GlobTek continuerà a produrre alimentatori IEC 60950-1 a meno di ulteriori novità.

Cos’è il livello VI di efficienza?

L’ordinamento numerico da I a VI si riferisce alla marcatura internazionale di prodotti in relazione al livello di efficienza di un certo prodotto. I requisiti previsti per la classificazione si basano sulla misura dell’efficienza durante il funzionamento e sulla valutazione del consumo a vuoto e a diversi livelli di carico. Il consumo a vuoto viene registrato in assenza di carico o con carico disconnesso. Il livello di efficienza VI è ormai obbligatorio in diverse nazioni per specifici prodotti o per specifiche applicazioni. La Direttiva Europea Eco-design 2009/125/EC ha di fatto inserito, per i Paesi Europei, i requisiti del livello di efficienza VI nell’ambito delle normative che regolano la vendita e l’importazione di alimentatori per uso esterno.

In cosa consiste la normativa europea CoC Tier 2?

Si tratta di una serie di norme che stabiliscono degli obiettivi di efficienza energetica per gli alimentatori e adattatori AC-DC. Sono pubblicate dalla Renewable Energy Unit del centro JRC (Joint Research Centre) della Commissione Europea. I requisiti fissati da tale norma non fissano degli obblighi di legge ma possono essere applicati su base volontaria.

Cos’è un alimentatore AC-DC di tipo plug-in ?

Anche noti come adattatori AC o convertitori AC-DC, si tratta di una tipologia di alimentatori per uso da esterno. Alcune apparecchiature elettriche necessitano di alimentazione di potenza ma non dispongono di una circuiteria interna per poter gestire un collegamento diretto alla rete. In casi del genere, un alimentatore AC viene utilizzato per convertire la tensione AC di rete in tensione DC adatta per l’alimentazione dell’apparecchiatura in questione.

Come funziona un adattatore AC-DC?

L’adattatore AC-DC è un convertitore da esterno integrato all’interno di un piccolo case costruito attorno ad una spina AC per collegamento alla rete, da cui derivano anche i vari termini plug, wall plug in, plug-in o plugtop. Una volta collegato alla rete elettrica AC, la tensione viene convertita in DC per l’alimentazione del carico attraverso il cavo di uscita.
